Yellow Fever Vaccine

We provide a full range of travel vaccinations and medications. Private, same‑day appointments available at Balance Pharmacy & Travel Clinic.

Yellow Fever

Yellow fever is a serious viral infection transmitted by infected mosquitoes, mainly in parts of Africa, Central and South America. It can cause fever, jaundice, internal bleeding, and in severe cases, death. There is no specific treatment — prevention through vaccination is essential.

Vaccination is required for entry into certain countries and for travellers transiting through or coming from affected areas. Only registered Yellow Fever Vaccination Centres can provide the vaccine and the International Certificate of Vaccination (Yellow Card) recognised worldwide.

FAQs

Yellow fever is a mosquito-borne viral disease found in parts of Africa, Central and South America. It causes fever, muscle pain, jaundice, and internal bleeding in severe cases.

The virus is transmitted through the bite of an infected Aedes or Haemagogus mosquito. These mosquitoes bite mainly during the day.

Travellers visiting or transiting through countries where yellow fever is present or where vaccination is a visa requirement. The vaccine is recommended for people aged 9 months and over.

A single dose provides lifelong protection in most people. The certificate of vaccination is valid for life from 10 days after vaccination.

Most side effects are mild, such as headache, muscle pain, or mild fever. Rarely, allergic reactions or neurological symptoms may occur.

The vaccine is not suitable for infants under 6 months, people with weakened immune systems, severe egg allergy, or certain medical conditions. It may also not be recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
