MMR Vaccine

We provide a full range of travel vaccinations and medications. Private, same‑day appointments available at Balance Pharmacy & Travel Clinic.

MMR (Measles, Mumps & Rubella)

The MMR vaccine protects against three serious viral infections — measles, mumps, and rubella (German measles). These diseases can cause severe complications including meningitis, hearing loss, pneumonia, and pregnancy-related birth defects.

Travellers who are not fully vaccinated or unsure of their immunity should receive the MMR vaccine, especially when visiting areas where outbreaks are common. Many countries now require proof of MMR vaccination for entry or study/work visas.

FAQs

The MMR vaccine protects against measles, mumps, and rubella — three viral infections that can cause serious complications such as brain inflammation, infertility, and birth defects.

All individuals born after 1970 who have not had two doses of MMR, or are unsure of their vaccination status, should be vaccinated. It is especially important for students, healthcare workers, and travellers.

It is given as an injection, usually into the upper arm. Two doses are required, spaced at least 4 weeks apart.

Two doses provide lifelong protection in most individuals. Booster doses are not routinely required.

Yes. The MMR vaccine has been safely used for decades and provides excellent protection. Side effects are generally mild and short-lived.

Temporary soreness or redness at the injection site, mild fever, or a short-lived rash may occur. Serious side effects are extremely rare.

People who are pregnant, severely immunocompromised, or have had a severe allergic reaction to a previous MMR dose should not receive it. If you are unsure, speak with our pharmacist.
